The Joys of Washing…
Once again I find myself in my iStock photo stash, and there is a flower field basking in warm morning sunshine so I decided I would like to make an abstract version. Still interested in trying out digital painting I went ahead using a soft round brush. I have now figured out that only using a very soft brush in Photoshop tends to make a hazy picture, unfortunately, which they both are.
To start my work, I always do a wash of colour and build up from that. This prevents white from the canvas or in this case the background from accidentally showing through in spots. I also find it gives more depth to start out with a coloured background.

On this particular piece as I was doing my wash and building the colours, I started to see another image coming through which I liked so, of course, I saved it.
This is the image.
Out of the base image I was able to create five different paintings. I’m only posting the two I like the best but can you see the background wash in both painting?
